Deep, documented, interview-ready research for your podcasts, documentary films, and long-form writing. We go beyond surface-level sourcing to give your production credible, nuanced and contextual research as its foundation.
Alchemystical
At Alchemystical, we bring rigorous research and creative execution to your media and publishing projects, strategic engagement and training needs.
Think research for your podcast or documentary production. Policy insights and analyses for strategic engagement. A high-concept board game or solarpunk literature. Editorial support for your book, magazine, or digital imprint. Or a workshop, cohort programme, or bespoke training for your team.
Our Practice
If your organisation is navigating complex policy terrains, particularly in technology, media, and AI governance, we offer research-led advice you can act on. We have convened policy forums, led stakeholder engagement initiatives, and produced analyses for high-level decision-making.
Concept and world-building for your speculative fiction, creative non-fiction, game design and interactive media projects, where we match conceptual rigour with imaginative execution. We bring the same research foundation to invented worlds as to real ones — grounding future scenarios, alternative histories, and imagined systems in the actual textures of technology, policy and lived experience.
Whether you are working on a book manuscript, an edited collection, a digital publication or a magazine feature, we offer structural editing, argument development, and scholarly grounding to help your work carry weight.
Customised trainings, workshops and programmes on AI governance, data policy, media and communication, and research methods. We design each engagement around the questions your team is actually working on, be it a short intensive for a policy or civil society organisation, a workshop for a newsroom, or a longer cohort programme for researchers and doctoral students. Every programme draws on our grounded work across media, technology, and policy in the Global South.
Preeti Raghunath, PhD
A former journalist, Preeti now teaches and researches communication technologies and policy at a leading UK university. Her expertise spans the global history of media and technology, digital media, AI, data governance, and emerging tech policy.
Preeti brings research and work experience in South and Southeast Asia, and the UK. She has consulted on multi-country research and policy projects, authored books and peer-reviewed papers, edited collections and long-form narrative work, covered election cycles, and reported human interest stories. She is particularly interested in advancing creative deliberative policy engagement, and specialises in designing and leading creative, deliberative policy workshops with stakeholders.
Alchemystical lives in the meeting of things usually kept apart. We bring together two decades of experience across newsrooms, policy spaces, and academic research in one collaborative space. The best work happens when rigorous research, creative media, and policy thinking are not treated as silos.
Our perspective is shaped by a richly international background and ethos. We root each project in its own cultures and contexts rather than a single vantage point, attentive to plural histories and to the values our clients hold close. Rather than flattening difference into a template, we stay close to where each story and community actually stands. Preeti works alongside a trusted network of researchers and designers across the globe.
At the centre of everything is the lived experience of people and the dignity of their voice. That commitment is the lens we begin from, not a method we apply afterwards, and it runs through every piece of research, media, and policy thinking we take on.
Alchemystical is boutique by design. We take on a deliberately limited number of projects each season, so that you get the attention your work requires.
To discuss your project and whether we are the right fit, get in touch. Tell us what you are working on, your timeline, and the kind of support you are looking for. We will respond within three working days.
